Grand Hotel Vanvitelli surprises – with its old-world elegance and its new-world comforts. The hotel takes its name from Luigi Vanvitelli, the famed architect responsible for the sumptuous Royal Palace of Caserta. The hotel’s interior reflects a passion for the lavish fabrics, gilded furniture, fine marble statuary and crystal chandeliers of a palace environment and of another era. Yet, there are all the modern amenities of this century.
Outside, the grounds offer several terraces where beneath the canopied shade of an ombrellone, one can enjoy the sound of trickling fountains and the pleasant scent of flowers. Most spectacular is the swimming pool, dominated by a white marble grouping of classical statuary, set against the dense deep green foliage of the trees, under the azure dome of a Neapolitan sky. In the evening, the area is illuminated by torchlight and is truly enchanting.
There are four restaurants to select from, for every taste in cuisine and choice of ambience. The breakfast dining room is graceful and inviting, and the buffet tempting in its abundance of tasty choices – more than enough to fuel up for a day of seeing the local sights of Caserta – The Reggia and its gardens, the ancient hilltop hamlet of Casertavecchia, and the delightful silk-producing town of San Leuccio.
